“Doing good things for rural Kansas is what we strive to do.”
That’s how Todd sums up the United Telephone Association’s mission.
The company has been around since the 1950s when a group of small independent telephone exchanges in Southwest Kansas came together in an effort to provide better service — hence the name “United.” Today, United Telephone Association, along with its subsidiary United Wireless Communications, is still in the business of providing outstanding communications services for Southwest Kansans.
Todd, who currently serves as the General Manager, has worked with the company for 5 years, but has been affiliated with it for more than 20. In his current role, he does a bit of everything, he says with a laugh. But his main focus is steering the company in the right direction for its customers and members.
As a member-owned cooperative, the company feels more like family.
“We’re working for the folks we serve,” Todd says. “I enjoy that. I love the atmosphere.”
Born and raised in Liberal, Kansas, Todd earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA from Wichita State University. He and his wife, Sandy, are active in their community through membership in the all-volunteer organization Dodge City Roundup, Inc., which holds several events each year including the PRCA Roundup Rodeo that takes place during the annual Dodge City Days festival.
“I like playing a role in showcasing Dodge City to the rest of the state and region,” he says. “We have a lot to be proud of.”
When not working or volunteering, Todd and Sandy enjoy traveling and spending time with their two daughters’ families — including six grandchildren.
